8:30 general meeting
minutes have been accepted as posted for last meeting
Treasurer reports: $21132.18 is the balance currently on account.
Paula: Thanks to Stauffer Funeral Homes, Blossom and Basket Boutique,
Inspiration Point, and The Secret Stork for the last business card exchange. We
are looking for the next host for the April business card exchange. If you are
interested, see Paula. The next scheduled exchange is Oct 12 by New Windsor
State Bank – we will probably have one sooner, though.
Audrey: Membership – Lots of new members in the chamber – very exciting.
Total membership is 246 members as of right now!!!! If you are a new chamber
member, see Audrey for the membership directory.
Keir: Marketing & Advertising – Please get your web page profile to Keir if
you haven’t yet, and also check your existing profile that’s up. Website visits
have hit a new record of 760 hits! (119 visits just yesterday) It has been
suggested that a search function be added to the website. Keir is looking for
help with this. Google now recognizes the Mt Airy Chamber website first when you
type in a business name and Mt Airy! Just completed a sponsorship with the
Gazette. If anyone is interested in a sponsorship link on the website, let Keir
know. Ran first ad in the Messenger, Gazette, Frederick NewsPost and CC Times
for the business card exchange (according to the new marketing plan).
Joyce: Carroll Co Chamber rep: You are invited to attend the Carroll Co
Chamber function as a Mt Airy chamber member. See the information packet that
Joyce passed around for events and dates, or contact Joyce if you have any
question. Carrollcountychamber.org
Ellie: Ambassadors Committee – all new members are welcome to stay after
today’s meeting for an orientation. New members all get welcome packets with
information on members. If you are a new member, see Ellie to get your packet,
or they will be delivered soon. Each member, please bring Ellie a small piece of
literature (quantity 100) to her shop on Main St.
Ellie proposed to the executive committee on Monday – new members back from
Oct 1, 2004 – receive a name tag ($8) at the cost of the chamber. Also, have
Ambassadors and Board members of chamber take new members to breakfast for some
1 on 1 time.
Paula moved, Howard seconded.
Jim asked why it doesn’t include older members? Tim said it will be
grandfathered.
Amended – provide a nametag to anyone who wants it
Tim recommended that we explore this through Archie and Sudha.
Tim Slane suggested that it’s a 50/50 cost chamber and member.
Audrey moved that we table until we have further information – we will have
more information by the next meeting.
On the back of today’s Agenda, there is a list of the committee chairs and
board members. If you are interested in serving on any committee, please call
any one of the chairs or board members.
Tim passed out a questionnaire for members to fill out with questions about
benefits of chamber membership, what the chamber should do to help you, what the
weakness of the chamber is, and what seminars/workshops you would like to have.
Please take a few minutes to fill this out. Survey will be put on the website,
so if you don’t get a chance to fill it out today, go to the
www.mtairybusiness.com
Business Fair: See Howard if you are interested in having a display outside.
If you have money today, please give it to Carol Cahall today. Otherwise, see
Archie. 19 tables have been sold right now, inside. 5 sponsorships have come in.
3 outside areas have been taken. Lions will be doing food. 16 businesses have
signed up for door prizes. $1 entrance donation per adult is proposed to benefit
the Mayor’s fund. Application is on the website. May 7 11 – 4 at the Carnival
grounds on Twin Arch/27. We’re also looking at having an outside tent if the
inside fills up. $100 per space. If you are interested in giving a door prize,
talk to Audrey. It is proposed that funds go to MAYAA (Mt Airy Youth Athletic
Assoc)
Carroll Tech council is having a golf tournament. If you are interested, see
Bob Cage.
Business Directory: Keir – Thanks to everyone who volunteered. Over 300
advertisers. 95% participation from 2005 membership! Proofing process begins
next week. Only 5% of advertisers provided ads, so please help Keir with turning
around your proofs quickly. Keir has a copy of the residential listings, it’s on
the website, and at the library – if you are interested in checking your
listing. Still aiming for April publish date.
Paul Clay: Kiwanis is doing a pancake breakfast March 19 6am – 12pm. If you
want to be on the placemat, see Paul.
Joyce: BNI meets 11:30-1 at Olive Leaf Café. If you are interested, see
Joyce.
Meeting Adjourned at 9:15 (new member orientation to follow)
