Business Card Exchanges

a schedule for this year’s exchanges on the website. They are working on
scheduling for next year, so let Leslie know if you’re interested.
Membership

members in February. As of today we have 249 members. We drew for the winners of
the free phone book ads – winners are Stadium Zone and Blossom & Basket.

Knight brought in the most members – he will donate his $100 to charity.

18 at Parr’s Ridge Elementary – Candidate’s forum for Mt Airy council and mayor
candidates, Please let Carol Blackburn know if you have any questions that you
would like to have asked.
Carroll Commissioner Debate
As
soon as we know redistricting, Tim Barkley will move quickly on the debate.
Carol Cahall moved that we give Tim Barkley the right to act on behalf of the
chamber to reserve a location for this debate. Seconded by Archie Rogers. There
is a maximum of $450 for the reservation of the place. Motion passed.
Carroll County Chamber
Joyce
is passing around a report and brochure with all dates.
Ambassadors Committee
Meeting following this meeting. We’re working on folders for promotional
purposes. We’d like
have them available for the business fair in April. We’ll come to
the Chamber with a proposal in the April meeting.
Professional Development
Next
seminar is March 7 at senior center, on Financial and Tax Planning. This is free
to Chamber members.
Advertising & Marketing
The 4
local papers have been covering the upcoming business card exchanges and seminar
series. Keir has been placing ads in the 4 papers for the card exchanges as
well. Website has been updated for members who have not re-joined for 2006. If
you haven’t done your web profiles, please get them to Keir. At the end of next
meeting, Keir is going to take pictures of new members and officers. Please plan
to stay if this pertains to you.
Business Fair
April
29th! Still have sponsorships available as well as 22 tables available in the
tent. Costco has donated a $1500 stainless steel grill to give away as a door
prize. Info is on the website as well. Steve Rose is going to distribute flyers
to local businesses. Let him know if you’re interested in helping. The parking
lot display areas will be first come first serve. You will be able to set up on
Friday night – there will be security available.

The
executive committee and committee chairs are working on policy and procedures.
Copies will be posted on the website within the next few weeks. This will be
voted on in the April meeting.

DBA
Spring Festival – if you are interested in participating in the festival,
contact Ben Gue soon!
Denny
– in the past, we agreed to donate $1000 for Katrina relief. There is a
remaining $500 from this donation, which will be donated to a chamber from the
area that was affected.
Tim
Slane asked, with a chamber our size, if we’ve thought about having a
scholarship for business students. Audrey Stapf answered that in the past, we
have done this, and she thinks
it was too much work for a low student response. Tim is volunteering to take this on as an idea to possibly
look into the Community Colleges.
