JANUARY 8th MEETING
Our next Chamber meeting will be held on January 8th, 2004, at 8am at
the Mt. Airy Fire Hall on Watersville Road. You enter the building by the back
parking lot door.
(Please note that this is the second Thursday of the month. We usually meet on
the first Thursday).
BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGE
The Chamber’s latest Business Card Exchange, held at New Windsor State Bank on
December 10th, was a wonderful affair. Despite the terrible weather,
we had a good turnout to a very enjoyable event.
Food was provided by Gayle Plummer Owens of Catering2You; one door prize was a
beautiful holiday basket donated by Susan Heitmuller of Pathways Geriatric Care
Management; and the other was a bottle of wine given by New Windsor State Bank.
We wish to thank Denny Ahalt and his fine staff for all their hard work in
organizing and planning this event.
The holiday basket door prize was won by Keir Knight, of Plain English Writing &
Design. The bottle of wine was won by Paul Clay of Long and Foster Realtors.
Congratulations to all.
THANK YOU ANDREA!
At our morning meeting, Dec. 4th, we met the new officers for 2004 and had an
opportunity to thank Andrea Williamson for her great work for the Chamber as
President for 2003.
PLANNING MEETING
Our planning meeting for the upcoming year will be held on January 22, from 11-3
pm at the Lorien Assisted Living Facility. We encourage as many members as
possible to come as we value your input. A luncheon will be served.
BUSINESS FAIR
Another big event for 2004 will be our Business Seminar/Fair on Saturday, March
27th from 11-3pm at the Mt. Airy Senior Center on Ridge Avenue.
Applications will be forthcoming asking for those members that wish to have a
booth, or wish to speak, or wish to help in some way. More will be discussed
about this at our January meeting. Please put this date on your calendar.
For more information, contact Business Fair chairman, Carol Cahall of The Main
Event at 301-829-4444.
GOALS FOR 2004
Our goals for 2004 include: increasing our membership to 120; filling all the
committees to get all our members involved in some way; to foster closer
networking with other town chambers, especially the South Carroll Business Assoc
and the Frederick Chamber of Commerce; and more involvement in government
relations both with the town and the county.
We also will do a review of our bylaws; we will update the incorporation; we
will establish a Charitable Chamber – becoming more aware of the charities in
Mt. Airy; and we will put together a Business Directory for all the residents
and businesses in Mt. Airy.
EXECUTIVE MEETINGS
The Monday before the first Thursday of each month will be the date of Executive
meetings in 2004.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
The Chamber placed adverts in the Gazette and the Messenger in December, wishing
Happy Holidays to all. The ads featured the names of every Chamber member.
SANTA CONTEST
The Chamber and The Gazette sponsored a Santa coloring contest to help promote
the first annual Santa’s Olde Towne Holiday Parade.
The winning entry, from 5-year-old Briana Pettaway of Twin Ridge Elementary,
will appear in the Christmas Eve edition of The Gazette and will also be
featured on our website.
This was a very successful project and our thanks go to: Carol Cahall of The
Main Event, Ellie Bonde of The Blossom & Basket Boutique, Carol Blackburn of The
Gazette and Keir Knight of Plain English Writing & Design.
