JUNE MEMBERSHIP MEETING

As always, there will be a very full agenda and we hope to have many members in attendance.

BUSINESS FAIR IS A HUGE SUCCESS!

By Tim Barkley

Thank you! to all those who made the Business Fair a success! The number of attendees and the number of vendors both approximately doubled from last year, and even though we had competition from many other events, most vendors felt their day was well spent. As the event continues, we are confident that it will continue to grow and become increasingly rewarding for the Chamber and the community.

The full list of volunteers is too long to include in an article of this nature, but especial thanks are due Keir Knight, Archie Rogers and Howard LeRoux for organizing and marketing the event; to Howard LeRoux and Ken Matthews for spending the night onsite to be sure there were no nocturnal shenanigans; to Audrey and her daughters who made our attendees feel welcome; to Bob Brill who drove from Frederick to tear down the event - even though he was not a vendor, and in spite of the pain of a broken foot; to Cindy Kelly, a new Chamber member who set up and took down all the signs from Damascus to Taylorsville and all around Mt. Airy; to all who donated door prizes and provided setup and teardown help; and to those whom I have forgotten – a special thanks to those who served without being noticed.

We are discussing and planning for next year's event. If you have suggestions, please email or call Keir, Archie, Howard or Carol Cahall.

Again, thanks to all!

AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE

By Ellie Bonde

Hello, everyone!

I would like to invite everyone reading this to attend our three activities in June: Our regular Meeting at 8 AM on Thursday, June 2nd, at the Mount Airy Firehouse; a Business Card Exchange at the fabulous model home of Forty West Builders on June 7th from 4 to 7 PM; and the first-ever morning Business Card Exchange at Costco on June 21st, from 7:30 to 9 AM.

If you haven't yet attended a Business Card Exchange, these are casual, drop-in events. They're outstanding opportunities to get to know other chamber members, exchange information, and network. Bring a big supply of your business cards to trade with other attendees.

Welcome, new members. We will be holding a New Member Orientation following the September meeting. Before that time, please call or e-mail me with any questions; if I don't know the answer, I'll find out for you!

I encourage our long-time members to watch the list of new members, and welcome them into the group. Please continue our tradition of mentoring new businesses and new members.

See you soon,

Ellie Bonde

GET INVOLVED – JOIN A COMMITTEE!

If you would like to become more involved in Chamber activities, we welcome you to join one of our committees. The list of committees can be seen at www.mtairybusiness.com/leadership.htm

UPCOMING BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGES

Forty West Builders will be hosting an evening Business Card Exchange on Tuesday June 7 from 4-7 PM at their new Model Home.

Directions: Route 27 North, follow 2.5 miles to left on Main Street (at blinking yellow light). Take 1st right onto Candice Dr. Follow Candice until you enter Sterling Glen. The Forty West model is located on the left.

Costco in Frederick is hosting an early morning coffee & goodies Business Card Exchange on Tuesday June 21 from 7:30 – 9:00 AM. If you have trouble attending the evening exchanges, then this is your chance to network and mingle.

Directions: Take 70 West to Exit 54. Follow the exit ramp and go through the traffic light. Costco is on the right.

Our next scheduled exchange is set for October 12 from 5-8 PM at New Windsor State Bank in the Twin Arch Shopping Center.

Please look for details and directions on the website.

If you are interested in hosting or co-sponsoring a business card exchange, please talk to Paula Wilhem of Lorien Assisted Living, our Social Committee Chair. She can be reached at 301-829-6050.

WEBSITE & GOLF TOURNAMENTS

The website is currently featuring a list of upcoming golf tournaments. If you are involved in organizing a local tournament and would like to have it listed, please contact Keir Knight at (301) 829-1982.

As with other areas of the website, this area would be very well suited for a sponsor! In March we had a record 1,092 visitors to the site.

All members, new and old, are encouraged to check out the Chamber website to ensure we have your information correctly listed on the membership page – and to submit a profile (up to 200 words).
