JUNE BUSINESS CARD EXCHANGE
The Frederick News Post is hosting a joint business card exchange that you won’t want
to miss on Wednesday, June 18 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The event will be at The
Frederick News Post’s new offices on Ballenger Creek Drive in Frederick and will be
showcasing our special partnerships with several local chambers. The Frederick
Chamber of Commerce, Greater Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce, Middletown
Valley Business Association and African American Chamber of Commerce will be
participating. RSVP is required for this event so please call 301-662-4164 or
visit frederickchamber.org by June 13.
CHARITY MINI-GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Greater Mt. Airy Chamber of Commerce held their 3rd Annual Charity Miniature Golf
Tournament at Adventure Park on May 22nd. The weather cooperated and the event was a great
way to meet other business owners, enjoy the weather and network. All proceeds are going to the
Mt. Airy Library’s Summer Reading Club which serves over 1,850 pre-school and school-aged
children. The Greater Mt. Airy Chamber of Commerce extends our thanks to Larry Stottlemyer of
Adventure Park for donating the use of his facility and especially to Colleen Strube who did an
excellent job organizing this event.
DONATIONS
Immediately following the monthly membership meeting, the Greater Mt. Airy Chamber of Commerce
presented nearly $5,000 to Twin Ridge Elementary School for the purchase of 3 response pads
for their classrooms. These response pads encourage interactive teaching and feedback from the students
so learning can be measured before introducing new school material. The Mount Airy Phone
Book, a joint venture between GMACC and the Kiwanis, continues to be a wonderful revenue resource
that enables the Chamber to give back to our community. This donation to Twin Ridge wouldn’t
be possible if not for the success of the Mount Airy Orange Pages so please be on the lookout for
the application to advertise in November.
In addition, the Chamber presented the donations from the Community Expo which included $500 to
Patriot Guard Riders / Help on the Home Front, $500 to St. Baldrick’s Foundation and $250 to
ICARE-International Cancer Alliance for Cancer Research and Education.
COMMUNITY CALENDAR
Look for the new Community Calendar on the Chamber website. This calendar will be
used for community events in the Mt. Airy area that are not sponsored by the GMACC.
This includes charity events, golf tournaments, town events, etc. There is no fee to post
events. Contact Brian Jacobs at bjacobs@rednoodle.com for information.
AMBASSADOR COMMITTEE
Paul Clay with the Real Estate Consultants of RE/MAX Realty
Group has volunteered to be the new chairman of the
GMACC Ambassador Committee. With the chamber continuing
its growth, Paul has a lot of great ideas to reach out to
prospective members and ways to better assist new members.
Members of this committee have the unique opportunity to
meet with new businesses in the community, so if you are
interested in joining the committee please contact Paul at
paul@reconsultants.com.
MT. AIRY TRIVIA
In the upcoming weeks, we will be starting a Mt. Airy Trivia
Contest on the Mt. Airy Business News Email List. An email
will be sent out with a GMACC trivia question and the frist
person who correctly responds with the answer will receive a
$25 gift certificate at Ridgeville Gas Station. You have to be a
member of the list to participate, so sign up today. Enrollment
information can be found on our website.
SOCIAL COMMITTEE
The Social Committee is still seeking new members. The
Social Committee organizes the Chambers social functions,
including the business card exchanges.
